Movers Edgware Health and Safety Policy
Movers Edgware is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, customers and members of the public who may be affected by our removals and related activities. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risk, preventing injury and protecting property throughout every stage of our moving and handling operations.
Policy Statement and Objectives
Our objective is to conduct all moving, lifting, packing, loading, transport and unloading tasks in a manner that minimises the risk of accidents, injuries, ill health and damage. Health and safety considerations form an integral part of our planning and decision-making, from initial booking and survey through to delivery and completion of each removal project.
Management at Movers Edgware accepts overall responsibility for ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety legislation, industry guidance and best practice in the removals sector. We will provide appropriate resources, information, instruction, training and supervision to enable our employees to work safely and to protect our customers and the public.
Roles and Responsibilities
Directors and managers are responsible for implementing this policy, setting clear safety standards and monitoring performance. They will ensure that safe systems of work are developed for all aspects of our removal services, and that these systems are communicated and regularly reviewed.
Supervisors and team leaders must ensure that crews follow safe working practices on every move. They are responsible for conducting local checks, identifying hazards, addressing unsafe behaviours and reporting incidents promptly.
All employees have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their work. Staff must cooperate with all safety instructions, attend training sessions, use equipment correctly, wear any specified personal protective equipment and report hazards or incidents without delay.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Movers Edgware will carry out suitable and proportionate risk assessments for regular operations and for specific removal projects when required. These assessments will consider, among other factors, manual handling, access routes, stairways, confined spaces, parking and loading restrictions, weather conditions and the nature of items being moved.
Findings from risk assessments will be used to develop safe systems of work, which may include planning crew numbers, selecting appropriate vehicles, using mechanical aids, sequencing tasks, and agreeing methods for moving heavy, awkward or fragile items. These procedures will be clearly communicated to the crews before work begins and reviewed whenever conditions change.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a core aspect of our services and presents one of the main risks of injury. Movers Edgware will ensure that staff receive training in correct lifting and carrying techniques, including team lifting, load assessment and the avoidance of unnecessary manual handling where possible.
We will supply appropriate handling equipment such as trolleys, dollies, straps and protective covers. Employees must use this equipment as instructed and must not misuse or tamper with any device provided for safety purposes. Defective equipment must be withdrawn from use immediately and reported for repair or replacement.
Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards
All vehicles used by Movers Edgware will be maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition. Regular checks and inspections will be carried out and any defects will be addressed promptly. Loads will be packed and secured to prevent movement during transit and to reduce the risk of injury when doors are opened at the destination.
Drivers must hold the correct licence for the vehicles they operate and must follow road traffic laws at all times. Fatigue, speeding, unsafe manoeuvres and the use of mobile devices while driving are strictly prohibited. Journey planning will take into account safe routes, rest breaks and realistic timings.
Customer, Property and Public Safety
We recognise our responsibility to protect customers, their property and the public during all removal activities. Access routes will be kept as clear as practicable, with particular care taken around doorways, staircases, communal corridors and shared entrances.
Where appropriate, warning signs or barriers will be used to highlight trip hazards, loading operations or vehicle movements. Floors will be protected as needed to prevent damage and reduce slip risks. Crews will work carefully around personal belongings, fixtures and fittings to minimise breakages and other damage.
Training, Information and Supervision
Movers Edgware is committed to providing effective training and information so that employees understand the hazards associated with their work and know how to manage them safely. Induction training will cover key health and safety topics relevant to the removals industry, and refresher or task-specific training will be provided where necessary.
Supervision levels will be appropriate to the experience of the crew, the complexity of the job and the level of risk involved. Employees are encouraged to raise any concerns, suggest improvements and participate in the ongoing development of our safety culture.
Incident Reporting and Continuous Improvement
All accidents, injuries, near misses and dangerous occurrences must be reported as soon as possible so that they can be investigated and, where required, recorded. Movers Edgware will analyse incident data to identify trends, root causes and opportunities for improvement.
Corrective actions may include changes to procedures, additional training, equipment upgrades or modifications to our planning processes. Lessons learned will be shared across the company to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
Policy Review
This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed regularly and whenever there are significant changes in our operations, legislation or industry guidance. Updated versions will be communicated to all employees and will replace any previous editions. All staff are expected to familiarise themselves with the current policy and to apply it consistently in their day-to-day work.
By adhering to this policy, Movers Edgware aims to deliver reliable and efficient removal services while maintaining high standards of health, safety and welfare for everyone involved.
